There are a wide variety of pitot tubes and systems available, but they all do the same thing: they measure the difference between the dynamic pressure generated when the oncoming air rams directly into a tube and the static outside pressure. The difference is read out on the airspeed indicator in mph or knots.
The exact type of pitot tube you use is unimportant as long as it is accurate and easy to install. However, it should be noted that most pitot systems take their dynamic pressure from a tube out on the wing, while the static pressure can come from a variety of sources.
The most reliably successful static port installation on the Bearhawk comes from plumbing a small port on each side of the aft part of the fuselage.
The most popular pitot tube is the L-shaped tube that attaches to an aluminum or steel mast that mounts close to the wing spar. The RV guys have provided us with lots of shopping options.
